Kausani was once known as Valna in earlier times. In 1929, while writing his books on Anasakti Yoga, Mahatma Gandhi made the little town famous by making it his temporary home. Also, the renowned Hindi poet Sumitranandan Pant hails from this region. Because of its picturesque landscape, Mahatma Gandhi referred to Kausani as “the Switzerland of India.” The Kumaoni and Garhwali peoples once called this area home, and it was technically a part of the Almora district. How to Reach Kausani?

Lacking both an airport and a train terminal, Kausani is inconveniently located. Hiring a taxi or taking a bus that frequently leaves New Delhi are the most practical options for getting to Kausani. The closest airport is Pantnagar Airport, located almost 162 kilometres from Kausani. Outside the terminal, you may hail a taxi to take you into town. However, Dehradun and New Delhi are where you’ll find the closest big airports.
