Jageshwar Temple History
Although the exact date of the Jageshwar temple complex’s creation is unknown, the ASI suggests that the temples were built during the post-Gupta and pre-medieval periods or somewhere about 2500 years ago. The earliest of these temples dates back to the beginning of the Katyuri Dynasty, in the eighth century (Chand Dynasty). During the reign of the Katyuri king Shalivahandev, the temples were restored. On the main temple grounds is an inscription left by Malla Kings, showing their devotion to Jageshwar. Katyuri kings also provided the temple’s priests with land for upkeep by gifting their villages. The Jageshwar temple also received support from the Chand Kings of Kumaun.
The Jageshwar temples have about 25 inscriptions from many periods. Generally, they date to the time frame between the seventh and tenth centuries. Notes are written in Sanskrit and Brahmi, two ancient Indian languages.
Former Chand kings were laid to rest at Jageshwar’s Samshan ghat. Bal Jageshwar Temple, also known as the Child Shiva Temple, is the centrepiece of the Jageshwar Mahadeva Temple Complex. According to folklore, Lord Shiva descended to this spot in the dense Deodar forest to meditate.
How to reach Jageshwar Dham?
Jageshwar is a city in the Kumaon area well-known for its ancient temples, which attract many visitors in search of spiritual fulfilment. Foreign tourists join the pilgrims in flocking to this area to marvel at the region’s ancient monuments and pristine wilderness. Getting there is never a problem because of how well-connected it is to major train lines and highways. Getting to Jageshwar by plane is another viable option.
Fly to Jageshwar
Pantnagar airport is the most convenient airport for travellers to and from the city. The distance to Jageshwar is just 150 kilometres. From Pantnagar Airport, you may take a cab, a luxury bus, or even a Volvo to Jageshwar. The Indira Gandhi International Airport and the Pantnagar Airport both serve tourists. Since this airport is on an international route, visitors from countries other than India can visit Jageshwar.
A Train Will Take You To Jageshwar
Kathgodam is the most convenient train station to go to Jageshwar from. There is a town called Jageshwar, and the distance from the village to the train station is 125 kilometres. Kathgodam is connected by train to other major cities throughout Nepal. Connections to Delhi, Howrah, and Lucknow are convenient. A ticket to Kathmandu would run you around Rs. 150. The majority of people use trains to travel between cities. So, if you want a relaxing trip, you should book accommodation for at least two months. Taxis and cars similar to the Tata Indica are readily available at the train station for the journey into town. From Kathgodam station, a cab to Jageshwar might cost about Rs. 2300.
Travel By Road To Get To Jageshwar
Several cities in Uttarakhand are easily accessible from Jageshwar by road. Connectivity to other popular tourist spots like Haldwani, Pithoragarh, Almora, and others is excellent from Jageshwar. A government-run company provides frequently scheduled bus service from these locations to Jageshwar. The price may change if you go a long way. The distance between Almora and Jageshwar is just 37 kilometres, so getting there is a breeze. In addition, cabs may be hailed from the Kumaon area. In a straight line, it’s around 400 kilometres from Delhi to Jageshwar. ISBT Gate Delhi also serves as a bus terminal for trips to Haldwani and Almora. Northern cities were also connected to bus lines.
Helicopter (Heli) Services
Helicopter flights operate by air heritage from Haldwani to Almora helipad under regional connectivity schemes, cutting travel time. From Almora, Jageshwar is then reached by road (≈36 km).
Best Time To Visit Jageshwar Dham
April through June and September through November are the finest time to visit Jageshwar. Due to the nice day and night weather, which is conducive to extended travelling about the region for sightseeing and additional investigation, spring and early monsoons are the finest times to visit Jageshwar.
